Protecting relays from overloading and short-circuits

Protecting relays from overloading and short-circuits

To protect SL series solid state relays against short circuit and overload a fast fuse with the correct rating for the load and the capacity of the relay should be chosen.

For triac output relays (SLO ...TR, SLO 24TRA and SLO 24TH) use a fuse which has as low nominal current as possible but without risk that fuse burns in normal conditions.

To protect DC output relays (SLO ...CR, SLO ...CRA, SLO ...CRA4, SLO ...CRX and also SLO ...IRA), use a fuse like above and as low nominal value as is practically possible with existing load.

Note that when overload current is low it is possible that the fuse will not protect the relay because of the tolerance on the fuse rating.
